About a year ago I developed a new obsession for the Hallmark Channel. It was around Christmas time and I don’t even know why I started watching, honestly. Anyway, one movie led to another and here I am still watching. Now, I may have lost some readers already and I may have gained some new best friends. Either way is fine, but I challenge you to keep reading to find out why I love these movies so much.
Loving Everything Christmas
I will admit that I am a sucker for Christmas in general. Really, I am that person that has a re-occurring line up every year of the same movies. I love the decorating, the baking, the spirit of giving and being with my loved ones. In theory I love the sight of snow, but since I don’t live where it snows, I will leave that for the scenes in the movies.
Have I mentioned yet how much I love Christmas? However, if you are reading this and you have fibromyalgia, then you already know Christmas isn’t always the easiest to get through. There is the added stress that can bring on more pain and exhaustion. There is the long hours of baking, shopping and cleaning that can slow you down by putting you in bed for a few days if not careful. Using The Hallmark Channel To Pace
I use pacing every day. What does that mean? It means that I break up my activities with small breaks. It keeps me from overexerting myself and helps me do more. So, during my “break” time I watch a Hallmark movie. Let’s get down to why I love these movies:
- There is always a love story. The movies are pretty predictable. Either the couple doesn’t like each other at first or there is some misunderstanding. Then eventually they realize they love each other, and they kiss. Sounds silly but I love watching the two fall in love.
- There is always a spirit of giving and community. I love how there is usually some kind of community event in the story line. Either the town has to come together to help a neighbor or they work together to make the holiday special.
- There are always scenes of baking in the kitchen. Have I mentioned how much I love to bake? I have so many wonderful memories of making Christmas cookies for all my family most of my adult life. I even managed to give this talent to my daughter. Try my Christmas Bark recipe or My Christmas HashBrown Casserole
- There is always a small cute town. I love small towns with main streets where everyone knows each other. So many Hallmark Christmas movies have this feature and it makes me feel cozy inside.
- There is always a feeling of hope and love. Above all, I usually end up feeling hopeful and good. I have even been known to cry at the end of these movies. At this time of year, I tend to get depressed. So, watching these movies makes me feel good and forget about my own worries.
Ways To Watch Hallmark
Watching Hallmark through your cable provider is a good way. I like to set my DVR to record the movies I really want to watch. However, this is not the only way!
- Hallmark TV – this is an app you can download on your phone or tablet. If you have a cable provider, you just sign in with your cable sign in and you are good to go. There are many movies and TV shows to choose from.
- Hallmark Now – This is an app you can download for your phone or tablet. However, there is a charge for this service. The good news is they offer a free trial so you can see if it is worth it for you. Here is the Amazon link you can use to try for free.
- Hallmark Movie Checklist – This isn’t a way to watch Hallmark. This is a way to organize what and when you will watch. I like to use this app because you can watch trailers, get a synopsis and keep track of which movies you are interested in watching by adding them to your list. It also provides you with a reminder you set up, so you don’t miss the movie premiere.
Will You Be Watching Countdown to Christmas?
If I have convinced you that you need to give these movies a try, then you want to get ready! The Countdown to Christmas Movies start on the Hallmark Channel on October 24, 2020. I would break down all the movies and tell you which ones I plan to watch, but honestly, I’m going to watch them all. So, get your popcorn, hot chocolate and cozy pajamas and relax.
If I convinced you to watch for the first time, please tell me in the comments what you think. If this isn’t your cup of tea, tell me what is! What is something special you like to watch during the holidays? Especially now with Covid-19 still preventing us from doing the things we normally do; this is something I am going to hold on tight to this year.
