It is time for November’s gratitude letter. I do these once a month to show the people in my life how much their love and support means to me. If you missed last month’s please read it here, as it was a good one to my mom (lots of happy tears).
This month my letter is to my husband of 19 years, although we have been together for a total of 23 years. Basically, we have been married to each other our whole adult life and the best part is we couldn’t be any happier together. To read about how we keep happiness in our marriage click here. Oddly enough we both had to do some growing up in our adulthood before we were able to truly make each other happy. So without further ado, here is my letter.
Dear Babe,
Where do I begin thanking you? Do I begin at the beginning, middle or now? We both know how hard the road was to our current situation. However, it was that journey we took together that has made us the strong couple that we are today. It is because of that journey up the strenuous hills and back down to the low valley that prepared us for the illness that we both face today. You have seen me at my absolute worse and my absolute best and you chose each day to stay, love and to give.
Keeping Score or Not
Most of our marriage there has been a score that was being kept, either verbally or silently. I don’t feel that anymore, I feel like we give without regard to the return. Maybe that is our secret to success? Your happiness is my happiness and vise versa.
My Care Taker
I want to thank you for all the times that you made dinner, did the laundry and brought me medicine. Thank you for the times you helped me up and walked me to bed. I thank you for all the walks you have gone on that you had no interest in doing. Thank you for going grocery shopping with me every week(because I’m too much of a control freak to let you go without me), instead of making me do it by myself. I am so grateful that you have taken over the budget and bill paying, as this is just an example of you trying to limit my stress.
Unconditional Support
Lastly, I am so grateful that you are always there to support me no matter what. Like when I get a crazy idea to do something risky like go back to school, start a blog or a new business you tell me your honest opinion. Even if you don’t fully believe in my idea, you always believe in me and give me your support (sometimes after some convincing of course). I am so lucky to have you by my side always taking care of me. You don’t hover, but stand close in case you need to catch my fall. Thank you and I love you.
It’s your turn! Who can you give your gratitude to? I welcome guests post if you would like to write an open letter to someone showing your gratitude. Or, just show them and tell us about it in the comments. It’s November- the month of giving and being thankful! Let’s do both together.
